Which garden do you find the summer workers in?

This year, you will be able to see our summer workers perform at various locations on Marstrand Island. At the bottom of the images in this post, you will find a map showing the different locations. There will also be signs outside the gardens to indicate where to enter since it can be a bit tricky to figure out in some places. You can also see the summer workers at their concert on August 5th at 6:00 PM at Marstrand's Church.

Emilie Flygare-Carlén opens this year's Victorian Days.

This year, the Victorian Days will be inaugurated with a film screening at Marstrands Havshotell on Wednesday, August 9th at 6:00 PM.

The film is a docudrama about Emilie Flygare-Carlén (1807-1892), the girl from Strömstad who became our greatest author for the next hundred years and also our first queen of detective fiction. Her breakthrough novel "The Rose of Tistelön" is considered the world's first thriller, and do you know that it takes place among the skerries around Pater Noster...

The film is one hour long, and the director Bodil Tingsby will be present to introduce the film and answer questions.

The Wooden Boat Festival 2023

Last year, Victorian Days initiated a collaboration with the West Coast Wooden Boat Association. This year, we visited their fantastic Wooden Boat Festival in Skärhamn. We were stationed in a tent alongside the Rope Maker's Museum, among others, sharing what Victorian Days is all about. It was a successful day with many distributed flyers and program brochures.

The day ended with a nice dinner where all the wooden boat owners who participated in the event were invited. We also invited them to our event and hope that many beautiful wooden boats will grace Marstrand during the Victorian Days.

"Ramneklovan" becomes "Kungsklyftan"

In 1887, King Oscar II visited Fjällbacka to see the famous ravine. After his visit, the ravine's name was changed from "Ramneklovan" to "Kungsklyftan" (The King's Ravine).

We visited the ravine on a lovely June afternoon. If you search carefully, you might find Oscar's signature somewhere inside the ravine. We didn't find it!
